She has volunteered in catering services for a long time, currently at Unity Works, but requires support with traveling, reminders for tasks, and monitoring due to her epilepsy and short-term memory loss.
Over the past year, Lai has benefited from consistent support from Centre 404, which has made her more content and confident. The biggest improvement has been her volunteering at Unity Works. Initially, support workers had to stay in the kitchen with Lai to assist her, but now she works more independently with support staff nearby. She also uses her break times to keep a diary of her day. Lai has become more social with new volunteers, and her increased independence is contributing to her confidence.
Lai’s mother is happy with the changes and appreciates that the new support plan promotes Lai’s independence, which she feels is beneficial for her.
