I am proud of myself and I love my weekly volunteering at Centre 404
However, since moving to VCC, PJ began working towards positive changes. Over a year ago, he expressed feeling bored and unmotivated, with a desire to re-engage in volunteering. In response, VCC staff supported him in exploring activities that aligned with his interests and strengths, encouraging him to expand his social circle and build a more engaging routine.
With support from VCC staff, PJ found a volunteering opportunity at The Arc Islington Foodbank, which he had previously enjoyed. He also resumed gardening sessions at Centre 404, regularly attending these activities. Additionally, PJ took part in social events, virtual reality workshops, and fashion and craft workshops, all of which helped him feel more involved and motivated. His experience with these activities has been highly positive, especially with the support of Caroline, the Volunteer and Engagement Coordinator.
A key turning point was when PJ attended the Voluntary Action Islington Volunteer of the Year Awards, where he received a Highly Commended certificate. This recognition boosted his self-esteem and motivated him to apply for a job, marking a significant shift in his life. He is now preparing for an interview for a housekeeper position.
