Do you know anyone looking after a friend or family member?
Islington Carers Hub and Centre 404 are encouraging Islington residents to share information about the program of events we’ve organised for this Carers Week, 7th to 13th June 2021.
In Islington there are an estimated 16,300 unpaid carers. Many people do not recognize themselves as carers, they simply think of themselves as supporting a parent or loved one. This means many people miss out on vital support to help them in their caring role from organizations such as Centre 404 and Islington Carers Hub. National Carers Week raises awareness of this issue.
What’s taking place in Carers Week?
There will be a full program with daily events to share information about support available in Islington for those who are new to caring, and for established carers. There will be a couple of fun holistic wellbeing sessions too!
Book for presentations to find out valuable information about looking after a loved one who has cancer, or who is living with dementia, mental health issues or a learning disability.
For the full program and for how to book, see the Islington Carers Hub website.
We’re delighted to be joining with speakers from Macmillan, Islington People’s Rights, C&I NHS and Centre 404. There will also be a “Day in the Life of a Carer” talks given by Islington Carers and information about support available from Islington Carers Hub.
Baking Cakes for Carers!
Islington Carers Hub are also asking Islington residents to show unpaid carers support and appreciation, by baking them a cake for the coming Thursdays in May.
It’s well known that health and social care workers have been completely stretched over the pandemic, but it’s less well advertised how great the impact has been on those who are providing unpaid care to friends or family on a regular basis.
We hope you will join us in celebrating unpaid carers by baking a cake. Islington carers and ICH staff will be sharing a recipe each week on the ICH website!
For inspiration, you can also book to take part in a special How to Enjoy Cooking! session on Tuesday 18th May, 4 – 5pm.
