We are Islington family carers of adults with a learning disability, who meet six times a year to discuss any issues that concern us.  We learn a lot from each other, but we are also greatly helped by attendance at the group of senior staff from Islington Learning Disability Partnership, who have kept us up -to-date during Covid on subjects such as shielding and vaccinations.

We also invite speakers on a whole range of other topics such as provision of supported housing, transition from children’s to adult services and health provision for those we care for.  Our views are  taken on board by the Council in formulating and implementing policy.

We always welcome new members, and if you would like to join one of our meetings, please contact Emily Brooks at Centre 404

Dear Family Carers

At last some better news as the Covid infection rate comes down and we’re emerging from lockdown!

The next meeting of the Family Carers Reference Group will be on Wednesday May 19th, starting at 11.00.

DAY SERVICES
Following our recent discussion about Day Services, we will be focussing on these at our meeting this time. Ellie Chesterman , Senior Commissioner, will be updating us on the reopening of Day Services post lockdown. Affy Wajid, who is leading the Council’s review of Day Services, will be telling us how the review will be conducted, and seeking our views on issues that need to be addressed. This is a good opportunity for family carers to look at where the gaps are in current provision.

COVID AND VACCINATIONS
Stephen Day, head of Islington Learning Disability Service, and Ellie Chesterman, will also be giving us their regular update on the pandemic in Islington, and how this is still affecting service delivery as the vaccine rollout proceeds. As always, they will be pleased to hear any queries we have and problems that need addressing.

Looking forward to seeing you all again next week. Emily will as usual be sending you the zoom invitation.

With our best wishes

Mark Austin
Chair, FCRG
